Wow, I've been really bad at updating this
thing. Bad Jonathan! Bad!
I recently directed a production of Lesli-Jo
Morizono's play, Now I Lie, at last October's Spotlight
On Halloween Festival. It was a great experience, and worked
with three fantastic actresses.
I have something major coming up next month. Cuchipinoy
is putting up its first mainstage show, and it will be my play, The
Magnificent Mr. Vincent. After many years of development and
readings, the play is finally going to receive a full production.
I've been making rewrites even after rehearsal had started, but I think
that the play is the strongest it has ever been and I think I am finally
happy with it. By old buddy, Mario Corrales, directs. We
have a fabulous cast.
Here is the info:

June 25, 2004
After a really long hiatus, I am actually doing a full
production of a show! I'm so busy I can't even update my own site
until two weeks before. :) I am directing the revised
version of The Green Dragon which goes up in July. This is
one of the most involved productions I have directed to date. It's
going to be pretty awesome.

Wow, it's been a while since I've last updated!
I've been very busy the past few months working on my plays. I
finally completed the first (or I guess this is the second) draft of The
Green Dragon. I had a small private reading of it last month
and will once again go back to make more rewrites. I'm very
excited about the play and I think it will be quite something when it is
finally completed. It had better, considering how long I've been
working on it. :)
In addition, I completed another full length play with
the fun title called Babies With Rabies, a comedy which is a
sort of cross between Noises Off, Marat/Sade, and Twelfth
Night. I wrote the play in a marathon session of three weeks
in order to complete it by the February 14th Deadline of the NY Fringe
Festival. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Finally, I am happy to announce that my play, The
Magnificent Mr. Vincent, has been selected by the Genesius
Guild for the Raw
Reading Series. I'm very excited about it. The reading
takes place on March 21st at 5pm at 520 8th Ave. 3rd floor, NYC. Visit the
site for complete details.
Aside from my writing, I have been taking voice
lessons and performance classes with Linda
Glick for over a year now. Hopefully, I will get to use my
vastly improved vocal abilities soon. :)
September 26, 2003
I'm laying low for the next few months; working on my
plays, taking classes, etc. In the meantime, here are a couple of
miscellaneous things:
I am featured in the September 19th Issue of Backstage
in their "Spotlight" Issue on Headshots and Resumes written by
Elias Stimac. My headshot was on the print issue in all its
glory. (Speaking of which, it's probably time to get new
ones.

and here.
Reviews for Who
Am I at the Midtown Theatre
Festival have been great!:
Martin Denton of NYTheatre.com:
"Who Am I takes in
genuinely moving self-examination (in the best of its four components,
about the cartoonist and his creation)"
"... with Jonathan Calindas and Daniela Tedesco
the standouts as the cartoonist and the young woman in his comic
book"
Elias Stimac of OOBR.com:
"Special kudos to the cast for being able to
keep their concentration while standing at arm's length from the front
row of the audience."
Amanda Koch of The
Hudson Current:
"It is a thoughtful insight into the dedication
of an artist to his work. Daniela Tedesco shines as the curious and
innocent "May." She plays off "Marv," played by
Jonathan Calindas, with perfect timing and tone."
Finally, I am only serving in this production as a
producer and press relations, but the next production by Cuchipinoy
will be Leyendas, adapted by Mario Corrales and Rodney E. Reyes,
at this year's Spotlight
On Halloween Festival.
Speaking of which, I will once again be designing the
website for the festival. Check it
out.

I have two things coming up...
I am directing the inaugural reading of Cuchipinoy
and _gaia's new Nine
Muses Reading Series. The play, Now I Lie, by Lesli-Jo
Morizono, will be read on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at _gaia Studio. For complete
details, click here.
We are also deep in rehearsals for the production of Who
Am I at the Midtown
International Theatre Festival this July. Click here
for complete information.
April 17, 2003
I will be having a staged reading of my play, The
Magnificent Mr. Vincent, on April 26 at _gaia
Studio. We've put together a wonderful cast. I'm very
excited! This is the first time it will be performed by actors in
front of a live audience. I'm also very nervous. :)
This is produced by Cuchipinoy,
with _gaia Studio generously providing the space. It should be
fun.
I'm also happy to say that Who
Am I has been accepted into this year's Midtown International
Theatre Festival. We will be performing it in July.
February 21, 2003
Has it really been more than four months since I've
updated? Wow. Time flies.
So this is what's new. Cuchipinoy
Productions has kicked into high gear and we have many great things
coming up. Up next is Medieval (K)nights at the Spotlight
On Winter Festival at Chashama Theatre.
I am serving as Producer and Promotions for this show. As with the
last few Spotlight On Festivals, I am also the webmaster and have drawn
up a really awesome site for the festival. (Hehe)
In the meantime, I am working on a major rewrite of The
Green Dragon. I'm very excited about it. In addition, I
have turned into quite the student and am taking voice lessons, dance
classes, and I'm taking a screenwriting course at NYU,
which I plan to pursue into a screenwriting certificate (fairly soon,
I'll be Actor, Playwright, Screenwriter, etc...). I'll also be
part of the playwright's forum again this spring at the Playwrights
Horizon Theater School.
One last thing... I have a new and hopefully permanent
email. You can now send email to jonathan@jonathancalindas.net.
I guess that's it for now. Go see Medieval
(K)nights!!!
November 4, 2002
Well, it's over. What an incredible couple of months
it has been. All three shows went amazingly well! I can't
wait until the next big project. In the meantime, I'll be taking
those classes I've always been meaning to take, and working on my other
plays.
The 4 am 'lizbeth
was reviewed by Talkin' Broadway. Click here
to read the review.
I've put up the new full length version of The 4 am 'lizbeth
in the plays page. Click here
to read it.
I have also been part of a playwright's forum at the Playwrights
Horizon Theater School, where I'm currently developing further my
play The Magnificent Mr. Vincent.
October 3, 2002
Rehearsals are going fast and furious for all three
shows!
Keep checking the Spotlight
On website for continuous updates.
In addition, we now have a website for Cuchipinoy
Productions.

It's going to be very busy the next three months. Mario
Corrales, Rodney Reyes and I are going to start a theatre company.
Our first production will be the full length version of The
4am 'lizbeth that I have been working on. It will be
presented as part of the
Spotlight On Halloween Festival in October.
In addition, I will be returning to the stage as an
actor after a very long hiatus as part of Rodney Reyes' play, Who Am
I, which will also be part of the Spotlight On Festival.
Full details to come soon!
